Patriotic Friendship Bracelets

Fourth of July is coming up! Why help your kids celebrate the holiday by making some patriotic friendship bracelets?
http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/2010/06/ss_100996932.jpg
Simple lengths of intertwined string, lacing, or ribbon have cemented camaraderie between generations of best buds. Weave a little patriotism into the classic craft with red, white, and blue lacing (available at crafts stores) braided into bracelets to give and to wear. Experiment with different combination of strands and embellish with beads for added flair.

Hal The Hero

Big shout out to Tony Gonzales for the guest post
My buddy Hal is my hero! While he's not a hero in the way that a police officer or firefighter might be, he's a hero for saving my sanity. Let me explain.
The company that I was working for ended up downsizing because of the recession. Unfortunately, my job was one of several that ended up being lost due to the economy. While it was initially a shock to my system, it became obvious to me that I wasn't alone. All across the country, businesses were closing their pocketbooks and laying off significant portions of their workforce.
Call me vain or question my priorities all you want, but the thing I was most upset about when I lost my job was that seeing the Mets play at Citi Field wasn't going to happen that much. We finally had a new ballpark and I wasn't going to be able to enjoy it!
Like I mentioned before, my buddy Hal is a lifesaver! Little did I know that his family got satellite tv New York, so we could watch the Mets every day during the season! Not only that, but our "seats" would be much better than the ones we would barely be able to afford at Citi Field.
Thanks to Hal, my situation went from a negative to a positive in a hurry. Therefore, Hal is my hero!

Learning About Food on TV

Guest post from my buddy Leonard Koller.
One of the most popular networks on television is the food channel. Who would have thought many years ago that this could have grown to be such a big hit? I was looking at channel options for satellite vs cable tv in Nashville and satellite definitely had the most cooking channels. Satellite television has enable viewers such as me to enjoy many methods of food preparation, and culinary styles from around the world. Such shows as the Iron Chef delight fans with both simple and deluxe recipes using varied ingredients.
Although Americans delight in eating out, there is nothing like a great meal at home. Men love to grill outdoors, and find that the sizzle of a steak on the grills is the ultimate satisfaction. However, there are many tips, tricks, and recipes available on the food channel that makes this experience all the more gratifying. Some of the ways used to improve this activity include special marinades or seasonings to prepare the meat first. There are also additives to the coals that provide a unique flavor. Some of these include apple wood soaked in water, lending that smoky scent to a well done steak.
Television has passed on much of this information to the typical viewer who might not have known it otherwise. This makes watching the food channel so much more interesting. The chefs are great, but it is their knowledge that is being passed on that makes this a don't miss brand of TV.

Best sites for managing your photos online

Guest post written by Katherine Houle.
With brand new social networking sites and blog-type sites popping up across the hughesnetInternet every day, it's becoming easier to manage your photos and videos anytime. And with the speed and interactivity of hughes internet in NC, you can post more pictures than ever before.
The most obvious choice and most widely used for making photo albums to share with family and friends is by using some form of social networking. Right now the most popular choice is Facebook. You are allowed hundreds of photos and can organize them in any number of albums. You can crop them and add in colorful captions. Another great feature is the ability to 'tag' any number of family or friends in the photo, which instantly adds the same photo to anyone 'tagged'. One person can share the same photo with anyone in it.
Another great way to manage and post photos online is by creating a blog. More and more families and groups are creating their own blogs. Either with a host site such as blogspot or by buying a new domain, which sounds daunting and expensive, but doesn't cost more than $10 a year, and it's possible to find domain names for even cheaper. Photos can be posted daily and organized chronologically or by subject and anyone can access old posts years back. Along with the photos, you can post comments or tell stories, which helps the audience really understand what is going on. Thanks to hughes satelliteinternet, I can organize and create great photo projects.

Camera Critters: Lionfish

Here's my entry for Camera Critters this weekend. Photo was taken at Shark Reef Aquarium @Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas NV.

Facts about Lionfish:
The lionfish (also known as the turkeyfish, tigerfish, dragonfish, scorpionfish, and butterfly cod) is a poisonous spiky fish found in the warmer waters of the western and central Pacific Ocean. The lionfish is a predatory fish hunting small fish, but it's venom is capable of being fatal to larger creatures.

The lionfish is a popular aquarium fish around the world, although the lionfish is better kept in tanks with lots of space and few other fish. The lionfish can live to around 16 years in the wild and lionfish often live longer if looked after well in captivity.

Funny T-Shirts

One of my college buddies is celebrating her 30th birthday next week. But I still don’t know what birthday present to give her. One thing I know for sure is she loves to collect funny t-shirts. I’m debating myself if I should get her a funny shirt or a purse. My husband suggested that a funny shirt is a great idea than a purse. Buying a purse is kind of expensive than buying a funny shirt.

So yesterday I started looking online to see if I can find great deals on funny shirts, and I found a great website that offers funny t-shirts, graphic tees, movie and TV inspired shirts, party and drinking t-shirts, and more! Whether you want to make a statement, like a Hot Tub Time Machine t-shirt or just want to make fun of others for no reason, bufftees.com got the cool t-shirts you've been looking for.

BuffTees.com shirts come in a variety of styles for men, women, and babies. There are dozens of colors to choose from, so you can pick the right style and color of t-shirt for you. You can also customize your own t-shirt where you can add funny designs. What are you waiting for?

Cadbury Wispa Duo

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of goviral. All opinions are 100% mine.

I think most people loves chocolate and for some chocolate is a comfort food. I like eating chocolate, but I have specifics. I prefer chocolate bars with stuff in it like caramel and nuts than a plain one. I have a friend who eats chocolate like every day and according to her she would be lost without her simple chocolate pleasures. I thought it was funny!
So what is your favorite chocolate brand? One of my favorite chocolate bars is Cadbury wispa. Have you ever heard of Cadbury wispa bars? They were a chocolate bar with air bubbles in it. The last time I had that chocolate was during my college days. I had it for a long time. My best friend’s mom works in the UK, and she sends her lots of Cadburys wispa bars. It was delicious! I was very excited when I found out that wispa bar is back! They were out a few years ago. And now they came up with a new wispa duo chocolate bar. It’s basically a bar of two halves. A distinct meeting of a left bar and a right bar. Did you get it? So if you would like to know about this new chocolate bar, you should watch the video below.

Automatic Hand Dryer

Have you ever seen this kind of hand dryer before? When we went to Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Vegas, my daughter and I went to the restroom, and I was amazed the first time I saw this automatic hand dryer. Do you know how much this gadget cost? It's worth $1,399.00 or more.
It's the fastest hand dryer – and it's hygienic, too, cleaning the air before blowing it onto hands.

Good thing about this place is they have an ongoing sale where you’ll only pay half of a price from their starter package for 6 months. And it’s FREE installation. You can browse hundreds of FOXTEL movies and TV shows online, then download them to watch on your PC! How cool is that!

So what are you waiting for? You should get FOXTEL and download tv now before the sale ends. You should also subscribe and choose your viewing from TV shows, movies and kid's programming.

Wohooo! I can't wait to receive my order from CSN Stores. Thanks sis Rose & CSN Stores for the awesome prize.

Easy Installation and Low Maintenance

My husband and I own a rental home. We have been doing some maintenance lately because our renter seems to complain on everything. One project that we are planning on doing this year is to replace the roofs. The house was built in the 60’s, and we’ve noticed last winter that the roof started to leak. My husband and I agreed that we need to replace or re-roof the house. I know it is a big expense, but what else can we do to keep our tenant happy. We might get some sheets from Ondura.com. I read about this website and I think they have a good quality and easy to install roofing sheet. They have been in successful use on roofs all over the world for over 40 years. They also offer tile roofing materials. So if you are looking for sheets and tiles that will bring you many advantages over conventional roofing materials, you should check out ondura.com. So what are you waiting for?

Freedom of Using the Internet for Photography

Guest post from my buddy Christopher Martinson
If you are a photo buff and live in a rural area then you probably remember how hard it was to process and develop film and send pictures to family and friends. The digital revolution changed how pictures are taken and allowed anyone with a computer to have their own virtual darkroom to process prints.
Websites like Snapfish and Flickr make uploading photos a breeze. Not only can a person manage photos in individually labeled albums, but these online companies also offer enlargements and even gifts that are easily personalized with the photo of your choice. These companies can also send you a CD-ROM of your photos so you can manage them at home, too.
Managing photos on the Internet is a wonderful shift from the old days of film. The biggest problem I had with using these great online sites to manage my photos was the Internet connection. Dial up just didn't work fast enough. Once I finally switched to a wild blue broadband internet connection, my productivity and ability to upload and download my photos increased greatly.
I love the freedom of sharing and ordering photos with wildblue internet. The cheap prices, reliable service and ability to group photos in dozens of ways make cyberspace a great replacement for those dusty photo albums.

Decorate w/ Paper

How would you like to splash your decor with lively pattern by wrapping it in decorative paper?
paper art
Create artwork to ooh and aah over by covering inexpensive 12-x-12-inch artist canvases with attractive paper patterns. Wrap the canvas like a present with a 1- to 2-inch overhang. Attach the paper to the front with double-stick tape, and secure the excess paper to the frame's back with electrical tape. Simple as that!

Ken Block/DC Shoes/Ford Collab Gear

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PacSun. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you love skateboarding, snowboarding, motocross, and rally racing, you are definitely familiar with Ken Block. In 2005, Ken Block began his national rallying career with the Vermont SportsCar team. His skill and car control became quickly apparent and he competently nabbed Rookie of the Year in the Rally America Championship. In addition to his performance in the car, Block has been a driving force in shedding light on the sport within the United States. His keen branding and marketing acumen not only elevated DC to their current eminent status, but has allowed Ken to achieve global fame as a national rally driver through his wildly successful viral video campaigns.
Ken has competed in many action sports events, and he is one of the co-founders and recently appointed chief brand officer of DC shoes. A worldwide leader in performance skateboarding shoes and a renowned action sports brand. Block believed that as with other athletes, skateboarders needed special shoes to compete at high levels. If you would like to get some Ken Block Gear, you should check out his new line at PacSun.com. I thought the Ken Block Drip Hoodie is a great gift especially for those into skateboarding, snowboarding, motocross, and of course rally racing.

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody

My kids have loved the show "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" for some time now. For the longest time, I was unable to figure out what the attracting features of this show actually were. After I actually sat down and watched a few episodes of this show on our satellite tv Florida with my kids, I started to get it. This show inspires children to have a humorous approach to tough situations in life and handle them with ease and fluidity. I am now a parent that is a huge fan of this show and highly recommend it to other families wanting a program with wholesome fun.
This program is truly wholesome, there is no other way to put it. In an era when many kids' shows can thrive on violence, "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" rarely features such violence. There are no exclusive clicks in the show, where kids are left out and shunned. Instead, the program promotes healthy familial relationships and embracing one's talents. My kids are now much closer with their siblings, much more than ever before.
Zack and Cody are twin brothers on the show, and they have inspired my own kids to pursue better relationships with one another. I am very grateful for this show and without hesitation recommend it.

Big thanks to Sam Bourdeux for the guest blog

Shark Reef Aquarium in a Desert

My gosh, my internet connection is slower than a snail. I can't wait to go back to Cali. Anyho....It's been a long time since our last trip to the aquarium. Now that we're in Vegas we took the advantage on going to Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay.
The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is a public aquarium located at and owned by the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The price was pretty decent. Once you get in you are provided a headset if you want detailed info about each exhibit or simply walk around and take it in for yourself.
They have a few open tanks with large lizards, crocs, piranhas etc. Those were fun and interesting to see especially if you have kids. There are large tanks, ending with a huge area that is decorated as a dark interior of a ship.
You will come face-to-face with some of the earth’s most fascinating creatures in North America’s only predator-based aquarium and exhibit. See sharks of all kinds, along with sawfish, giant rays, endangered green sea turtles, piranha, moon jellies and the rare golden crocodiles. In all, there are over 2,000 animals in 1.6 million gallons of seawater.

Spongebob Is Going Off the Air?

guest post by Pat Walsh
Has anyone heard this besides me? There is a post on Facebook that says that Spongebob is going off the air. I don't know whether this information is true or not but I do know that my children and my husband are going to be very disappointed. Who really would have thought that a silly yellow sponge would make people laugh so hard?
The first time I ever saw it I didn't even know what I was watching the kids turned on the TV and next thing you know we were all just sitting there together spending time watching Spongebob. While I do somewhat limit my children's television viewing Spongebob is too funny to pass up and usually if they find it on they know that I will come and watch it with them and my husband will too. Perhaps the humor is more geared towards adults then kids but they seem to get it okay and seem to laugh at even some of the references that I think are going over their heads.
The one episode where Spongebob learns how to drive is perhaps one of my favorites. It shows Spongebob and he keeps trying to learn how to drive and keeps failing his driving test until he eventually gets the driving instructor fired and then he learns to drive blindfolded. He can only drive the obstacle course with his blindfold on but with it off he can't do it. Check out this episode and let's all say our prayers that Spongebob continues for generations to come. Hopefully they will play them old ones on some channel on satellite TV, so now how much does satellite tv cost?

Camera Critters: Macaw/Parrot

Photos were taken during the Pacific Rim Asian Festival (05/24/10).
I don't know what kind of macaw/parrot bird this is...a scarlet macaw maybe...I'm not exactly sure. Do you know?
When hubby and I saw a macaw bird sitting a couple of rows from us, he immediately grabbed Akesha and went closer next to the bird. I overheard her saying "look at that beautiful bird papa!" I
t's a beautiful bird indeed! For more Camera Critter entries or would like to join us, just click the button below.

Ruby Tuesday: Cherries

We have a cherry tree in our side yard and we're expecting a harvest every year. But when this tree started to burst, little chipmunks will eat them all. I realized that squirrel chasers won't work. So I came up with this idea....
Only 9 cherries left? Not even enough to feed a family of 3....lol!
Akesha deserves to eat them all. Now I know what to do next year. I just need to buy a few packs of sandwich bag.

Avalon Wall-to-Wall Panoramic Windows and the Open-Air Balcony

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Avalon Waterways. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you been dreaming of taking an exciting vacation on a cruise? You should visit www.avalonwaterways.com and check out the new visionary Suite Ship. You will be able to take a 3D ship tour that interacts with the Open-Air BalconySM. You can view photos, and see fleet-wide amenities which are offered by Avalon. The beauty of this ship really inspires me. You can Request a free cruise brochure all about the Avalon Waterways to get more information on this great ship which has 1550 percent more suites than any other river cruise vessel on Europe's waters. This ship is so big, 100 cruisers could fit in one 200-square foot Panorama Suite. Since 2005, Avalon Waterways has developed and christened more new ships in Europe. These Panorama Suites are, on average, 30 percent larger than the standard industry stateroom. Travelers can save money by finding River Cruise Deals, and you can get that information on their website. I think a great title for this website is, “Avalon Waterway, The New Panorama Ship Experience”. So what are you waiting for? You should checkout Avalon today and check out their cruise lines. This is a great time to go on a cruise. I know I would love to go on one.
