The Wire is the best show

Guest post from: Constance Rodgers

When I got my mobile internet from Clear-internet.com last year, the first thing I wanted to do was watch episodes of my favorite show, The Wire, through Netflix online. The Wire was on HBO and though it ended in 2008, it’s probably one of the better TV series that’s ever been made.
I’m only two season in so far, but the series basically revolves around the seedy underbelly of Baltimore, Maryland. One side of the story focuses on the cops and the other on the criminals, which makes for a really interesting dichotomy. There’s one character on the show, Omar, who’s just fascinating as he’s the ringleader of one of the big gang fronts. I also like one of the police officers, McNulty, because he’s really human and shows how difficult it is to be on the right side of the law. I can’t wait to get a few more seasons in because each episode just keeps getting better and better! I’m so glad someone recommended the show to me and

Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products

This is a compensated post written by me on behalf of Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.
I was given the chance to try out Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products. I chose to try the Vaporizing Chest Rub. Vaporizing Chest Rub temporarily relieve nasal congestion, chest congestion and cough, it also relieves minor aches and pains. I remember growing up using vapor rub. I use it to put it on my throat and sometimes I would put it under my nose, and on the chest. Both my parents and grandparents taught me how to use it. Now that I have my family of my own, I always make sure to stock a few vapor rub in my medicine cabinet. Yesterday, I applied the new vaporizing chest rub on my daughter because she was coughing a little bit. After she took a nap, she told me that she was feeling a lot better. Aside from cough, I also use vapor rub for stomachache, headache, and other types of pain. Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products are a great value, allowing families and individuals to save money without sacrificing quality or trust. With the rising cost of health care, saving money on over-the-counter medications can really benefit a family’s budget. Walgreens Brand Medicated Vaporizing Chest Rub is recommended by Walgreens pharmacists, who have been a trusted community resource for over 100 years. Every purchase of Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products allows Walgreens to contribute to the Walgreens Way to Well Fund™ up to $3 million annually. This fund provides free preventive health tests and health and wellness services and education to local communities. So for more Walgreens products, you should check out their website today for details.Advertisement

Saturday Getaway

How are you guys all doing? I hope all is well!
Easter celebration here in the US is totally different from the Philippines. I'll tell you, it's not about the "Bunny" and the "Candy" for sure! I miss the way how Filipino celebrates the holy week.
Anyhow, last Saturday we went to the mall to participate the biggest easter egg hunting in San Antonio. There are over 5,000 eggs hidden around the mall. We got there on time, but all eggs were gone...weeeeee! Some nice folks handed Akesha some eggs and candy.
Akesha's first picture with Mr.Bunny. Hey, it's FREE!
The mall was too crowded. Line here, there, and everywhere. Aside from sitting on bunny's lap, they also offer FREE balloons, face painting, and live music.
After the whole event, we ate lunch and went to Burlington Factory. We also went to see a 3D movie called "RIO". It was a wonderful Saturday!

Thanks Worthington Family & Cottrill Family

Akesha had a blast on her 5th birthday. We did not take her to places that day because hubby has to work. We just had a simple celebration at home. Just the three of us. It's totally opposite from where I came from. I know it's temporary. But am pretty sure, she'll celebrate her birthday with friends/classmates next year.
The most anticipated part on that day was opening the presents. Hubby and I had fun watching her excitement. Thanks to Akesha's sponsors.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Worthington Family & Cottrill Family for the lovely presents. Thanks a lot guys!

Basketball and Me

Authored by Greg Fletcher

Many people protest exercise. When my doctor first told me that I would have to start exercising on a regular basis, I wanted to protest right away, and say, "Hey, that's not fair!" However, I've worked exercising into my daily schedule. I'm so glad I did. Knowing that I can come to a group exercise class with a friendly and uplifting environment is great for me.
My group exercise class focuses on basketball. I'm one of the only two women in the class, but I still manage to shoot the hoops with the guys. I really love basketball now, and I wish there had been a sports team for basketball at my college for women so that I could have tried out.
Basketball is great. It's well worth waking up an extra hour earlier every morning for it too. I wake up, get dressed, turn on my home security alert system from www.securitychoice.com/, and go to my group exercise basketball class. Then I continue on with my day - with more energy then before.
I've had more energy because I've started working out, and I feel great. Basketball has helped me change my life!

Suplado Tips Book Promotion

Stanley Chi, already popular for his quick wit and dry humor, brings candor to a new level through the contemporary Suplado Tips. Chi started showing his knack for comedy when he created the comic strip Chopsticks for Manila Bulletin eight years ago, still being published every Sunday. He went on to become a standup comic and a TV host for the comedy show Front Act.
The book, just like any monumental discovery, started as a completely random and impromptu post on Facebook. “That online post turned out to be my very first suplado tip,” Chi said. “I toyed with the idea that being cocky can be a means of getting what you want – or at least a way to delude yourself that you already have everything in the first place.” Soon after he shared several of his suplado tips on Facebook, they spread like wildfire.
“Reading a suplado tip is like acting out a fantasy. The book gives you many scenarios where being standoffish gives you the upper hand, something which otherwise would not happen in real life,” Chi added.
Having been released nationwide in National Bookstore and Fully Booked outlets just last March, some stores have already reported a shortage of the book. Suplado Tips has reaped a cult following even before the book’s release, with readers already scouring bookstores months before the book made it to the shelves.
With the book selling like pancakes way before the book launch to be held on the last week of May, PSICOM Publishing Inc.’s Tom Aquitania was more than happy that he asked Chi to write the book. After the undeniable popularity of Stanley Chi’s suplado tips on Facebook and on television’s Front Act (of which Chi was a host), Aquitania asked Chi to compile them into a book. “Stanley’ssuplado tips on Facebook has even led to the creation of the Suplado Society of the Philippines, complete with its own suplado oath. All of this, despite being clearly just a pseudo-serious joke, is also an unmistakable sign that Stanley Chi’s suplado tips is something the public will want more of,” Aquitania said.
Avail of Stanley Chi’s  Suplado Tips through www.psicompublishing.com. It is also available in Fully Booked and National Bookstore outlets throughout the country (at least, while supplies last – and who knows till when that will be). You may also visit www.stanleychi.net to find out why suplado is the new sexy.

Fishing Spot

Our favorite spot. A man-made lake near our place.
We went fishing again last Sunday. Well, actually I went fishing by myself....lol! Hubby and Akesha don't like to fish. So instead, they set up a picnic area and watched me catching fish.
Akesha brought her new pet pillow. The pet pillow was a birthday gift from RYE. Thanks again Rye!

Fishing is not as easy as it seems. It requires a lot patience. Oh boy, it took me a half day to catch 6 fish, and also I caught 3 turtles…waaaaaaa! They’re like all over the place. They ate most of my bait.

My Humble Ride

Over the past 5 years, I have not been driving seriously. The fact of the matter is, I don't like to drive. And I hate driving. I always have different excuses every time hubby ask me to drive. That's one reason why he don't want to get another car before.
We decided to get another car because my daughter will start kindergarten soon, and it is my responsibility to drive her to school.
Hubby drove it home. I took this at the traffic light. Akesha was trying to wave at me.
We spent our whole Saturday shopping for cars. We visited 6 car lots and did not find what I wanted. I was thinking of getting a red truck or a red convertible. But no luck for me that day. The only option I have is the crysler LXI silver convertible. We are hoping to pay off the car loan before the end of the year. Our down payment was not enough to pay off the whole price of the car. Hinde uso ang CASH sa America....lol!

Fishing

I've been longing to go fishing for a long time, and finally made it happen last Sunday! So after church service, we stopped by at Walmart to get a cane pole. We have regular fishing poles, but the problem is we don't know how to use them...lol!

Anyhow, we drove to a nearby man-made lake and went fishing there. Since I had trouble using the regular fishing pole and had no luck, I opted for the cane pole.
It was a success using it because I caught my first fish! Weeeeeee...the feeling was so intense! After 2 hours of fishing, I only caught 4 fish. Not bad for a rookie like me. Hubby and Akesha didn't catch any....lol!

I can't wait to go back fishing next weekend.

Outdoor Adventures

The news about the slaughter of 100 sled dogs of a sled-dog tour operator, outdoor adventures, last April 2010 in Canada brought outrage around the world. Dog lovers surely were most angered about this news as there were claims that the sled dogs were slaughtered inhumanely by the use of firearms after the Olympics due to downturn in business. The outdoor adventures company owner, Joey Houssian refuted the reported manner of slaughter as his company knew nothing about it. He even pointed out some inconsistencies in the reports filed by the employee who was said to have completed the slaughter. Currently, SPCA announced that they are currently investigating the company regarding this issue of animal cruelty. The truth will then prevail.

Military Appreciation Night

We went to the Fiesta Carnival last Thursday night. Fiesta is an annual spring festival held in San Antonio, Texas with origins dating to the late 19th century. The festival begun as a single event to honor the memory of the battles of The Alamo and San Jacinto.
Since is was the premier night last April 7th, the commission had set a special day for military appreciation. We took the opportunity to recieved unlimited-ride wristbands for just $10 each with military ID (excluding Akesha). She don't have a military ID yet.
We had so much fun. The event started from 6pm-11pm. Hubby and I were pretty amazed with Akesha because she went on most of the kiddy rides.
Just click the image to enlarge it.
We'll surely come back there next year.

Decorative Pillows

It was a few weeks ago when I contacted mamiAdin of "It's Sewtastic, Mama!", and asked her a big favor if she could do some customized bags for my DSLR and tablet PC. I also asked her if she could add some decorative pillows for my sofa set. I'm glad she did not refuse...ehehehe!
our humble living room in progress....I think I have to change our curtain even if my living room theme is black, white and gold.
I got my orders last Saturday. I was ecstatic when I opened the box. Oh, my! Everything is far beyond my expectation. She did a phenomenal job on customizing the bags and pillows. Thanks a lot mamaAdin. She is very talented and creative! I highly recommend her service to everyone out there.
I'll blog about the customized bags later, for now I'm sharing you the decorative pillows she made. I think it looks fantastic on our sofa.

Grocery Shopping

How's your weekend everyone? I hope you had a wonderful one. Our weekend went mighty fine. We spent our whole Saturday grocery shopping. Sunday we went to church, stopped by at Lowes, and watched a couple of movies at home. How about you?
We do our grocery shopping every first week of the month. It's basically a whole month consumption, so it's a whole day event...lol! We shop at the commissary. A commissary is a store on a military base that sells groceries and household goods and supplies for military personnel and their families.
Daughter loves this kind of cart, but hubby have trouble pushing it because it's a little bit heavy than the regular cart.
Since I don't have a picture of myself shopping, I'll just share a picture of my feet...nyahahhaha!

Find A Matching Tutor for Your Child

This post brought to you by Kidzmet. All opinions are 100% mine.
All parents have hopes for their children. They always want the best for them. As much as possible, parents want their children to excel in everything they do. That’s why there are parents who seek the service of a tutor to give their children an advanced knowledge. Although some parents personally take the responsibility of home schooling their children, some are not given that convenience and just submit into an idea of hiring someone that could help. When in need of a tutor, kidzmet.com seems to be the place to find one. Kidzmet.com understands the parents’ strife in giving their child the best they could give. This site, kidzmet.com was born to help children discover what they are good at with the help of their matched tutor. To help your children find their matched tutor, simply sign up for a family account at kidzmet.com then complete their pairing portraits so they’ll be given a tutor that matches their needs of learning. ACT Tutoring

One time, the American President, Theodore Roosevelt said that a man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole road. Education is too important to be left out. We aim for a better education for knowledge and good action. If we have it, we will not suffer as we are growing up. Education is about learning, to see the potential within oneself that we are capable of something greater.

Think about how we can give the young generations a good education. We can mold and motivate the young children to achieve their goals someday. We take part to feed their young minds and improve their knowledge or skills. Parents should know about exceptional ACT Tutoring to their kids to provide more advanced material for extraordinary motivated students in the convenience of their home. An effective way to develop and improve a child’s knowledge.
