Thanksgiving Day Part 1

Our Thanksgiving day holiday went great. We had 30 plus people instead of 40+ guests. Hubby and I were glad that we pulled it through the party. I will tell you, it is not easy to be the host of the party. It needs a lot of preparation, decoration, cleaning, cooking, and organizing the stuff. We definitely would love to host it again. During the Thanksgiving day, I was in the kitchen all the time. I feel relief when my sister-in-law from the Bay Area came early to help me prepare the cooking. I don't even have time to take pictures with the food and the turkey. At least hubby took some of the photos. I would like to share some of the photos we had during the party.

Just click the photo.

Thanksgiving Day History

I am sure that some people in other country are not familiar with the Thanksgiving day here in the United States. When I was in the Philippines I have no idea what Thanksgiving day is, and I don't even know how traditional it is to the American people. So in case you don't know about the meaning of the Thanksgiving day, I would like to share some information behind the turkey celebration.

"Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, at the end of the harvest season, is an annual American Federal holiday to express thanks for one's material and spiritual possessions.

Most people celebrate by gathering at home with family or friends for a holiday feast. Though the holiday's origins can be traced to harvest festivals which have been celebrated in many cultures since ancient times, the American holiday has religious undertones related to the deliverance of the English settlers by Native Americans after the brutal winter at Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Thanksgiving was originally a religious observance for all the members of the community to give thanks to God for a common purpose. Historic reasons for community thanksgivings include the 1541 thanksgiving mass after the expedition of Coronado safely crossing part of Texas and finding game. and the 1777 thanksgiving after the victory in the revolutionary battle of Saratoga. In his 1789 Proclamation, President Washington gave many noble reasons for a national Thanksgiving, including “for the civil and religious liberty,” for “useful knowledge,” and for God’s “kind care” and "His Providence." The only presidents to inject a specifically Christian focus to their proclamation have been Grover Cleveland in 1896,[ and William McKinley in 1900. Several other presidents have cited the Judeo-Christian tradition. Gerald Ford's 1975 declaration made no clear reference to any divinity.

The tradition of giving thanks to God is continued today in various forms. Religious and spiritual organizations offer services and events on Thanksgiving themes the week-end before, the day of, or the week-end after Thanksgiving. Bishop Ryan observed about Thanksgiving Day, "It is the only day we have that consistently finds Catholics at Mass in extraordinary numbers even though it is not a holy day of obligation."

In celebrations at home, it is a holiday tradition in many families to begin the Thanksgiving dinner by saying grace.[1] Found in diverse religious traditions, grace is a prayer before or after a meal to express appreciation to God, to ask for God’s blessing, or in some philosophies, to express an altruistic wish or dedication. The custom is portrayed in the photograph “Family Holding Hands and Praying Before a Thanksgiving Meal.” The grace may be led by the hostess or host, as has been traditional, or, in contemporary fashion, each person may contribute words of blessing or thanks. According to a 1998 Gallup poll, an estimated 64 percent of Americans say grace."

Nailed It!

Most women love to pamper themselves once in a while. Some would like to go to the spa, shopping, or going to the salon and get their hair and nails done. Operation: Thanksgiving Day Prep!

In two more days it will be Thanksgiving day. Where are you guys going? I mean where are you going to celebrate the turkey dinner? This year will be my 4th year celebrating the Thanksgiving day here in America. Every time we celebrate the Thanksgiving we always go to hubby's family and I always bring dishes or Filipino dish for potluck. This year is quite different because we are going to host the Thanksgiving day in our house. Wheww! big deal? For me it is a big deal. I have been busy preparing and decorating for 2 days now, and I did not accomplish everything yet. Oh geez! We did set up the tables and chairs in the garage last night. I decided to transformed the garage as a dining area, because we can't accommodate 40+ people inside our house. Yep! 40 plus people is a lot. That's how big my hubby's family...believe me it will be loud and crowded. I am very anxious right now because I will be the one to cook the turkey for the very first time. I am nervous if I get mess up or something. Anyhow, just sharing you how busy my mind right now.

Are you wondering why Obama won the election? There is an Obamanomics study that was put out to analyze the question, why did Obama win the election. If you are interested in reading the report, you can read it from website. The report is completely free. This is a study of social velocity written by Jalali Hartman and edited by Mike Nolan and Emily Paterson. One of the items discussed is how Barack Obama taped into the Facebook phenomena. McCain didn’t tab into the online market like Barack did. He might have gotten his idea from Colbert who almost got elected from running for president and using Facebook to do it. Obama dominated the web with 250% more awareness then McCain. I noticed that too since Obama was putting adds out on Pay Per Post, and we didn’t see any adds at all for McCain. Maybe McCain had a limited view of the internet because he is old and probably never even used it. This report discusses all kind of information by analyzing the campaign of Obama and McCain and brings up some of the issues of why Obama won compared to McCain. McCain didn’t take advantage of a lot of outlets compared to Obama. You should checkout the report if you are interested in why and how Obama won the election.

Dora Fanatic

My daughter Akesha turned 31 months old the other day. I can't imagine how time drastically change. She grow up so quickly. Anyhow, one thing she loves to watch during the day time is "Dora the Explorer". Dora influence her a lot, as you can see she is Dora fanatic. She enjoy watching the show even if it is on repeat, and shes also addicted with "Spongebob". I am glad that she can entertain herself by watching these shows while I do blogging. I don't need to run every 5 seconds just to check on her because if she need something she will come and ask me. Good job Akesha!heheh..:)

Check out a new movie sneak peek

Now that we have elected a new President, we are wondering what changes are in store. Changes are Coming and we hope they are positive ones. You should check out the youtube video concerning change. What do you think of the movie’s message? The video is about change that Obama keeps talking about. The writer and producer talks about why it took 40 years to create the movie. He takes you back to the Roman times when even Jesus couldn’t change the behavior of people. You should go to the youtube site and leave comments about the video. What do you think? What message do you think the video is trying to portray? Is America like Rome in the time of Jesus? Is America going to fall like Rome? Are we on the verge of a collapse with our economy going down, and people losing their homes and jobs? The video is about the great American circus with big corporations becoming richer while the middle class struggles to pay the bills. This is a great satire of the American life, and I encourage you to leave a comment at the youtube website concerning this video. I hope that America isn’t on the downward spiral that this video is portraying.

Nat Wolff and Alex Wolff starring in their new movie called “Operation Mojo”. This movie is part documentary and a part rock-mockumentary musical comedy of the Teenick series The Naked Brothers Band. The movie will be aired on Nickelodeon on November 22nd. Here is the plot of the movie. When Nat sees a tabloid photo of Rosalina kissing another boy during her round the world cruise, he becomes convinced that he’s losing her for good and goes into a funk that threatens to prevent him from finishing the movie the band is making. Desperate to snap him out of his gloom, Alex leads Nat into the wilderness, believing that surviving the perils of nature will lead Nat to discover his inner strength and regain his mojo. I was not able to post this last night, because I was chatting with my high school friend online. Yesterday, I made "liempo" or grilled pork for dindin. I got the idea from the Max's Restaurant. I ordered liempo when we went there last weekend, and I was not satisfied of their serving. heheh! So, I made one at home! I marinated it with beer, spices, and lemon. The beer idea is part of my experiment. Actually it taste pretty good. You should try it! hehhe.. :)
