Dinuguan/Sampayna or Pork Blood Stew

I can tell you are drooling right now. If you are Filipino I am sure you know about this dish. Hubby called this the "Blood Thing". Well this is not his Filipino fave dish. He loves pansit and lumpia better. I bought this at the Filipino store close to where we live. I've been craving about this dish since I moved here in the US 4 years ago, and finally I know now where to get it. I am not sure exactly how much per container, I guess about less than 10 bucks.

According to Wikipedia, Dinuguan (also called dinardaraan in Ilocano, or pork blood stew in English) is a Filipino savory stew of blood and meat simmered in a rich, spicy gravy of pig blood, garlic, chili and vinegar. The term dinuguan comes from the word dugo meaning "blood". It is recognizably thick and dark, hence the Westernized euphemism "chocolate meat." It is similar to the Singapore dish pig's organ soup, differing in that it does not contain vegetables and has a characteristically thick gravy. It is frequently considered an unusual or alarming dish to those in Western culture, though it is rather similar to European-style blood sausage, or British black pudding in a saucy stew form. It is perhaps closer in appearance and preparation to the ancient Spartan dish known as black gruel whose primary ingredients were pork, vinegar and blood. Dinuguan is often served with white rice or a Filipino rice cake called puto.
I just realized that it taste better when I added few string beans and some spices.

AHHH, Dhemz - you are making my heart melt lol. The last time I ate dinuguan was last year. I love this dish with sweet puto! My sister calls this "Black Soup" - I think I'm going to call mama if she can cook this the next time I go over their place. Thanks Dhemz, you can never go wrong when you post food on your blog :)
