Easter Weekend Part 1

I have finally gotten a chance to update my blog about our Easter weekend getaway. It was a tiring weekend. Anyhow, last Saturday we went to our friends house to have an easter egg hunting. Akesha had a blast. She did much better than last year. I believe that there are 600 eggs hidden all over the place. Of course as always hubby is the stage father, and we are the beneficiaries of Akesha's candies....hehhehe!
Just scroll down to see the rest of the photos!!!

Happy Easter Akesha!

Every year Greg's company always hands out Easter basket for kids, and of course Akesha got one. This is her 3rd Easter basket that came from them since she was born. She was delighted when her papa came home from work and gave her this big Easter basket. Apparently she can't wait to open it.

She was forced to smile because she can't wait to open the basket.
Do you know that it has been estimated that around 90% of children in the US receive some form of gift-filled Easter basket during the holiday season? It's worth noting that this estimate comes from the National Confectioners Association (NCA) whose members sell many of the candy treats and chocolate eggs. A recent NCA survey also discovered that chocolate bunnies are the most popular Easter basket item - some 90 million are sold every year. Jelly beans come second with a staggering 16 billion jelly beans sold annually.

With increasing awareness of health issues, some parents are reducing the amount of sugar treats and instead adding non-edible gifts and toys as basket stuffers.

Easter Basket

When our tenants dropped off the check last night, they brought an Easter basket for Akesha. That was very nice and sweet of them. Since Akesha was sleeping when they came by, she did not know about this eater basket yet. All she knows...is Papa will bring her a toy, and that will be after hubby gets home from work. I am sure she will be delighted to see this Easter basket. I guess this is the first basket she got this year...and more to come!

What is the history behind the Easter basket anyway? According to my source, Easter gift basket is not simply an ensemble of various goodies and treats. Rather it brings home the meaning of Easter to all of us. There is more to these popular Easter ensemble than the eyes can see.

According to the legends, the fertility goddess Eostre (or Oestre) carried a basket of eggs. Thus, Easter baskets signify new life, rebirth and renewal. The Easter Basket ritual has its origins in the German folklore of the Easter Hare. According to a German legend, a white hare would leave Easter baskets filled with candies, brightly colored eggs and other goodies for kids to come and gorge on them on Easter morning.

The German settlers when moved to U.S., popularized the tradition of the Easter hare. And as the days passed, the Easter hare became the Easter bunny delighting the kids with baskets of eggs, chocolates, candy, jelly beans and other goodies on the Easter morning. Nowadays markets are flooded with a large range of Easter baskets to suit all tastes and preferences
