The Advantages of Owning a Dog

"I'm bored! Why Won't Anyone Play With Me?"
This is our 9-year old dog, named BUDDY. He's half chow and half collie. We have him since he was 4. Having him in our family is a joy.

What are the advantages to having a dog in a house? While dogs make wonderful companions in an increasingly urbanized society, they do, however, present some constraints that humans must assume. The following are some of the positive aspects of having a dog in the house:

- added social stimulation within the family. Talking about the dog, taking care of him, playing with him and being interested in him are all positive for the group;
- companionship from the dog, which is especially important for persons living alone;
- relaxation that comes from walking the dog, playing with him and petting him (some studies have even shown that a person's heart rate decreases when petting a dog);
- the sense of protection that the entire family feels in the presence of a dog who guards the house;
- friendship and sense of companionship, even emotional attachment that is sometimes very intense and that bonds the owner with his faithful four-legged friend;
- the responsibility that comes with buying or adopting a puppy;
- the undeniable support role a dog plays in raising children. Moreover, dogs are widely used by psychologists to assist in reintegrating problem or delinquent children or adolescents;
- the understanding and sympathy from this animal, which at times are apt to transform human beings;
- the feeling of value and achievement that some people have when they are accompanied by their dog and can show him off;
- facilitation of social contacts in a society in which people hardly ever talk to strangers and in which walking one's dog provides a way to talk with other people walking their dogs;
- finally, the feeling of prestige that some people have in owning a certain breed of dog. Objectively speaking, however, it is questionable whether this is actually a positive virtue since a dog is not like a sports car.

Ang ganda nga nung aso ninyong si Buddy. Mukhang matalino at matapang, hehehe, lol. God bless you all always.

That is so true Dhemz, they are a good companion when you are in solitary and needs someone whom you can play with. Playful kaayo na sila. We have dogs before pero karon wala na kay sige man mi travel unya lisod pod sila ibilin so dili na lang mi mag dog especially pag uuwi kami sa Pinas... Buddy is cute, Dhemz!

These are so true dhemz. I felt secure with Bones whenever my husband is not around. He is really a good guard dog.

Your dog is so adorable. He looks like our neighbor's dog, Marley Bear. I really love dogs and ever since I can remember, I always have a dog, either one or two. They are an amazing animals!

Dogs are love! I love having one for myself in the future, but I guess having a pet is like having another child and I know I'm not ready for that. I'll just have to show my doggy affections to my father's pet. He's turning 10 this year.

I agree with what you're saying here. I haven't owned a pet since living on my own, but we did have a family dog of dobermans before. Dogs are most helpful to those less fortunate like those that are blind for example. Those are plenty good enough advantages to owning a dog.

Very well done in this my dear friend!
