5 Unique Ways to Decorate Your Pumpkin

Pumpkin carving and decorating is basically a rite of passage for every human person when Halloween rolls around. That means some of you have probably been carving pumpkins for quite some time, so how do you come up with new ideas? Do you carve the same classic jack-o-lantern face every year? Or do you try to mix it up, getting more creative as each year passes?
No matter what your pumpkin carving style is, our friends at Home Lighting Center have your back. They have compiled a list of unique ways that you can decorate your pumpkin this year. There’s something for everyone!
1. Favorite TV Show or Movie
Use your favorite TV show for your inspiration, like Seventeen Magazine did with this Stranger Things pumpkin. From Hocus Pocus to Friday the 13th, there are literally endless possibilities here. Turn on your favorite Netflix series and start carving away. Use paints, lights, markers, paper, or whatever your heart desires to turn your pumpkin into the perfect representation of your favorite movie or TV show.
2. Use More Than One Pumpkin
Whether your stacking pumpkins to make an interesting creature or layering them inside one another like this skull pumpkin, this is one great way to get unique with your pumpkin design. Don’t limit your pumpkin carving capabilities to one boring pumpkin. The more the merrier! Carve a few pumpkins and stack them on top of one another for a pumpkin tower, or put a small jack-o-lantern inside a larger one like it’s being eaten. Get creative with it!
3. Use the Elements
You don’t have to limit yourself to paint or a knife. Use the things that nature has to offer from your own backyard. Like with this decoupaged leaf design, all you need are some leaves and ModPodge to create your perfect nature-aligned pumpkin.
4. Get Disney With It
Carve your favorite Disney character! With hundreds to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect design for your pumpkin in the form of a fun character from your favorite Disney film. You can find free stencils and more Disney pumpkin carving ideas at Disney’s Family site.
5. Glow In The Dark
That’s right, glow-in-the-dark pumpkins. Pick your design, stencil it out, and stick it to the pumpkin. Then paint over the entire pumpkin with glow-in-the-dark paint. Take off the stencils and wa-la! You have got yourself an awesome glowing pumpkin. Find the full tutorial at One Little Project.
