Model Railroad Expo

I hope everybody had a great weekend! Ours went OK. My family and I went to the model railroad expo last Saturday. It was our first time going to this kind of event.

Daughter had a blast at the expo. She was overwhelmed with all the model trains around. We bought a few items at the event like miniature people, caboose, and buildings.

It's really cool watching miniature buildings, farms, people, and trains.

Here's what we've been working on for the past few weekends.

We still have a lot of things to add on this project. I'm glad we did a successful job on making the mountain/tunnel part. It was a tricky one!

Hubby is planning to add a riser, inclines and roadbed this weekend. We are also planning to go to a Model Train Expo on Saturday. I can't wait!

100th Day of School Project

My daughter's kindergarten class is doing projects to celebrate the 100th day of school and they were asked to make something using 100 items and put it on a poster board. So last Friday I went to Michaels and got some craftsy stuff.

This is what me and my daughter came up with. We finished it last Saturday night. She's very excited to take it tomorrow to school. It's 100 items total. No more no less!

Wheeewwww! What a day! I just got home from ~~the car shop~~ MIDAS a few minutes ago. I was there for almost 2 hours waiting for my car to get it fixed.

What happened was I had a flat tire early this morning (my first time). I'm so glad I already dropped my daughter to school before it happened. I only noticed the plap plap sound after getting off the freeway. So, I drove super slow and pulled over at the nearest park.

I called hubby, and he immediately asked for assistance from USAA. I've waited an hour for the tow truck guy to come to change my tire. After he replaced it with the spare tire, I went ahead to MIDAS to have it fixed because it's not recommended to drive using a spare tire.

I'm so grateful I got home safely! Thank you God!

My parents are getting older and part of me really feels like it’s my responsibility to take care of them. They’re having a hard time getting things done that used to come easy and though I’m really far away I feel a lot of guilt for not being there with them every day. I love them both so much and I would never want them to suffer because I wasn’t giving enough effort. I looked into internet service in Louisiana for them down where they live so they could email – to be their age they’re surprisingly into things like technology and cell phones. The good thing is that even though they’re less mobile than they used to be they’re much better about getting in touch than I would have imagined at their advanced age. I don’t know where in the world they picked up this love for all things tech because they sure didn’t have it when I was growing up but I’m really thankful for it. That’s one less thing on my plate!

I made ~~pancit and adobo~~ a little preparation during New Year's eve. Hubby thought it was a lot. Oh, boy! Until now he still don't get the Filipino tradition no matter what I say. Cooking for 2 dishes during the holidays is not a lot in the Philippines...lol!

I always get homesick every Christmas and New Year. I just miss how we celebrate holidays over there.

Post Wedding Anniversary Getaway

Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012! How's your New Year's celebration? I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful New Year.

Sharing some photos of us during our visit (2nd day) to USS Lexington Museum. We drove 3 hours from San Antonio to Corpus Christi after Christmas to celebrate our anniversary. It was a long drive but it's worth the trip.

The USS Lexington ship is humongous. With 3,500 beds, this ship has more sleeping space than Caesar's Palace, the Mirage, and the Treasure Island. Plus the flight deck is equal to more than two acres of land. It's really huge. The ship has post office, chapel, clinic, operating room and more.

My family and I had a great time during our visit. Not to mention, hubby started getting some flashbacks of memories during his time in the Navy.

Hubby used to work at the Naval Aircraft for 10 years before he moved to the Air Force. He's on USS Nimitz and USS Carl Vinson.

After a short hiatus, I'm back to blogging! Thank ya'll for dropping by. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas celebration. I have to tell you, the Christmas & holiday season is slowing me down a bit. I need a magical potion that will help boost my strength....lol!

Anyhow, hubby and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary last Christmas Eve. We had a simple celebration and went out to eat at Red Lobster ~~again~~. For our anniversary presents: I gave him a "man bag" and he got me a new pair of earrings. Thanks hon!

We opened our presents at midnight. Akesha had a blast opening all her gifts. Thanks to all my blogger friends who sent us presents and cards this year. Your thoughts are highly appreciated.

One reason I wasn't able to update my blogs it's because we went out of town for a few days. We spent our post wedding anniversary celebration at Corpus Christi. It's feels great to be away sometimes. We had a wonderful time visiting the famous WWII ship, the USS Lexington. I will share some photos later.

Family is really important to me and I think it’s been really great for both me and my brother to have a closer relationship these last couple of years. We spent a long time in a deadlock because we were both so competitive but now that we’re older and doing our own things I think we can appreciate how much we really need each other in our lives. I recently got 4G internet from CLEAR so I could email him pictures from my travels across the US and I know he appreciates living vicariously through me. I’m sort of the free spirit of the two of us and he’s the businessman with the wife and kids so we balance each other out in a way. My mother always said if we were one person we’d be the perfect man! Anyway, it’s nice to be able to talk to Joe in a way I never could before…he’s much more accepting of who I am and I know I try harder to not give him a hard time.

How is everybody doing? I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Ours was a pretty busy one. Last Saturday we attended USAA's Childrens Christmas Party. The party was fantastic! It was pretty cool because Akesha and I were able to get in the office where hubby works. Getting inside the USAA building is awesome. It's like a mall! Also, Akesha was able to sit on Santa's lap and had a blast playing games.

Akesha's school had a Christmas Program last Thursday evening.

It was her first time to perform on stage with her kindergarten classmates. It's super cute looking at them singing and dancing.

USAA Christmas Party

Last Saturday night was USAA's Christmas Party. It was our first time to join the big event. We supposed to go last year but we went to California, so we missed it. Anyhow, the party was spectacular. Great food and awesome entertainment. I thought the Las Vegas theme was pretty cool! Plus, guess who performed that night? It's Huey Lewis and the News! Have you ever heard of them before?

My simple outfit that night. I was going to wear a dress but I change my mind...lol!

Hubby and I sat really really far from the stage...nyahahha! Gosh, it's really hard to find a seat near the stage. I'm guessing, there are more than 10k people during that night. USAA rented the whole Alamodome just for that event. Not to mention, USAA has 25k employees.

Akesha stayed at the daycare center near USAA. She had a blast playing with other kids. The party lasted until 11:30 pm. It was a great night!

The Weekend Synopsis

How are you guys all doing? I hope y'all had a great weekend. Our weekend was ok. Last Friday night we went to Sprint to upgrade my phone. Thanks to Santa because he got me an early present this year. Saturday morning we drove to Parker Uniform to get new pair of pants for Akesha, then we went shopping at Walmart, stopped by at Elf Louise and do some volunteer works, and at night we went to USAA's Christmas Party. We had a blast at the party and got home super late like past 12am I think. That's why we spent the whole Sunday at home chill'n. Sunday evening we went to watch Jack 'n Jill at the movie theater. How about you? How's your weekend?

These photos were taken last Saturday at Elf Louise Warehouse. This is the "volunteer" thing I mentioned above. It's our first time to get involved in this 100% community based volunteer organization. Hubby and I have done a few volunteer jobs before but this one is new to us. Wrapping Christmas presents! The Elf Louise is a Christmas project dedicated to providing a little bit of joy to less fortunate children in our city.

The warehouse is huge. It's like a regular shopping store. Personally, this is probably one of the most joyful experiences my family can have - to bring joy to a child at Christmas! I'm glad we did it. We are looking forward to help again next weekend. It's an awesome feeling to help wrap and label the gifts for the kids. This is also our way to teach our daughter to appreciate the things that she have and to be kind to others.

Our holiday weekend went great! We had some visitors came over to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. Thanks to my BIL and his kids for spending time with us since Thursday. It's great having them here.

We had a sumptuous THANKSGIVING dinner. I made most of the dishes myself. We had appetizers, main course, and desserts. For drinks we had 2 bottles of sparkling cider. This year, I roasted a 14lb turkey. Oh boy, I have no idea what to do with leftovers...lol!

Happy Thanksgiving! I was going to update my blog earlier, but I was too busy cooking in the kitchen. Cooking for 6 people is a big deal...lol! My BIL and his kids came and celebrate Thanksgiving with us. I like when they visit us because Akesha get to spend time with her cousins. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks to my niece and nephews for sharing the history of Thanksgiving. It's really cute listening to them.

For three consecutive days without internet, I've accomplished a few chores at home. I miraculously did the laundry and folded the clothes on time, sweep some dusted areas in the house, and vacuumed the carpet. Plus, I was able to finish setting up our Christmas tree.

I'm really satisfied with the result! Red and gold theme is just perfect! 96% of these ornaments were used from the previous years. I've created a small town below. Some of these items came from Goodwill store and dollar store. Looks fancy right? Not to mention each piece cost between .49 cents and $2.99 only.

...always unplug everything! According to the AT&T tech guy, surge protectors are not designed to stop a direct lightning strike and always unplug any equipment in the house.

Geez, it has been back-breaking, agonizing 3 stinking days without internet connection and no TV. Well, what can I say about Texas unpredictable weather. We had a nasty weather the other day, a lightning strike has caused power outages around our neighborhood. Our circuit breaker got damaged and our internet/cable line got affected as well.

We had 3 different technicians came by yesterday and today to fix the circuit breaker and internet/cable connection. Now, I'm back to normal! Yay, I can blog now!...lol!

Final Soccer Game | Undefeated

How are ya'll doing? I hope you guys had a fantastic weekend. Our weekend went mighty fine! Daughter's soccer team had a victorious game this season, they never lose a single game. I'm so proud of her team. Great job RAMS!

Last Saturday was their final game. The score was 7-0.

How's everybody's weekend so far? We had a busy Saturday as always. We went to our daughter's soccer game in the afternoon and did our grocery shopping afterwards. Akesha's soccer team won again. The score was 9-4! We are looking forward to watch their last game next Saturday.
Anyhow, I almost forgot to share some of Akesha's trick or treating adventure last Halloween.

After I picked her up from school, she immediately went upstairs and change her uniform. She's so antsy that day and can't wait to wear her cowgirl costume.

Hubby didn't arrive until 5:45pm. So I decided to take my little cowgirl outside to do some photo actions...lol!

Akesha had a blast trick or treating this year. Plus, she enjoyed handing out candies to the kids outside.

She got her bucket loaded of candy that night. She did not eat them all in one setting...lol! Glad she obey my general halloween candy rule "One candy a day!" signed by: MaMagement....lol!

How are y'all doing!? I hope you had a blissful and wonderful weekend. Our weekend went OK. Last Saturday was our daughter's 4th soccer game. It was another tough game. Both teams got the same score of 4-4.

Anyway, pumpkin carving is one of the things we do during Halloween season. Hubby and I always carve our pumpkins....we're not professionals so please be kind and don't criticize our masterpiece...lol! Since Akesha don't know how to carve yet, we always let her paint her pumpkin.

This year I didn't go gaga for Halloween decorations. I just have a simple decorations outside our house.

The little miss can't wait to giveaway candies and of course...she's excited to go trick or treating!

My 5-year old daughter just recently got the chance to listen to a really cook Kid's Songs cd. Thanks to groovekidnation.com for sending me a complimentary Groove Kid Nation "Music in Motion" Children's Music CD.
