Teach Your Toddler How to Memorize

Here's my 3 year old daughter at her best. In case you don't get what she just said. Here is my translation.
"Hello everybody. My name is Akesha Dias. I am 3 years old. I live in California, USA! Thank you everybody"....(with matching bow)

And here's what impresses me the most.... She can memorize the "Ako ay Pilipino. Taas noo kahit kanino. Ang Pilipino ay Ako!"
In english:
I am a Filipino.
Proud to (admit to) anyone
(that) The Filipino is me!

Being a stay at home mom allows me to help my daughter improve on her education. I teach her the Filipino language during the day time while hubby teaches her English at night. One thing I focus on teaching her right now is memorization. At first I thought perhaps the line was too long for her to learn at such a young age, but to my surprise, after working on it for about a week, she had it memorized. What is the secret? I use Repetition.

According to my source(Amy Kreger):
Young children learn words and phrases primarily by repetition. You can easily observe this when your child is playing and uses several sentences that he learned from you. You never told him to memorize "We need to play nicely together", but you saying it a few times a day planted the words in his mind. Say the statement, verse, or pledge to your child, one phrase at a time. Say it slowly and deliberately. After you say it a couple of times, say the beginning of the phrase, leaving out the last word. Your child will probably quickly learn to supply the missing word. Soon you will be able to leave out prepositional phrases and nouns and your child will pick up on those as well.

You can be a great teacher tsang, good job. Thanks for sharing all this, da nalimut naman intawn ko sa mga naagian nga mga seminar intawn oi hehehehe. Like i said I find it easy to teach other kids than teaching my own jake. He has this attitude of not listening and wanted to learn on his own, Im hoping one day he'll listen to us lol. Dili magpatudlo, mag observe ra, and then the next thing we know he is doing it.
lahi sd ang girl and boy, mas dali tudloan ang girl, ky interesado mn sila ky sa mga lalaki, mura dugay mag mature ang laki sa babae. bright na iu akesha, imagine makamemorize na ako ay pilipino, dili jd d i na ma deny ky kabalo mn jd siya pinoy siya hehehehe. next time maka memorize na national anthem both US and PI. Way to go mama.Tagae nyaug reward sd ang dalaga hehehehe

I agree with Tsang, before i used to teach at sunday school class t church, i is easy to teach other kids than ours :-); pareho na jud ni jake si jake ni tsang, abinako dili maninaw kay dula man kanunay, then all of a sudden iya na to gisulti ug ginabuhat...

great job, dhemz...smart kaayo si akesha :-).

Dhemz, you are doing such a superb job in teaching your daughter. Education truly starts at home. Love the way she said "Ako". I really encourage you to let her learn more than one language because it's an asset. Way to go Akesha! :)

She is a lucky little person to have a mom so aware of her needs involving her education and ability to learn.
She is a real cutey also :)

WEll, that's a good idea to provide your kid as many as words taken from foreign language (not her mother tongue language) because at the age ranging from 4 to 11 years is the best period for learning foreign language. Even if you want to stock her with more than two languages, it is possible. That's good dea to be a stay-home mom.

Come to my blogs as well, and leave comment because I have done it here. Thank you

You are such a great parent and mom to teach as well as you are to Akesha. After following along on many of your entries, the growth of her physically and mentally is evident with how you have taught her.:)

Hahaha kakatuwa girl. Slang na slang si Tisay ano? LOL! She has the sweetest voice. Oh I miss my lil friend. She is already two years old now. Anyway, good job mommy Dhemz. Yezzz, repetition is the key. Even if you think they are not listening, keep saying the words because they are passive but, their ears are not.
